4:4 “The Sea” stood on top of twelve bulls. Three faced northward, three westward, three southward, and three eastward. “The Sea” was placed on top of them, and they all faced outward. ¹

4:11 Huram Abi ²  made the pots, shovels, and bowls. He finished all the work on God’s temple he had been assigned by King Solomon. ³

23:11 Jehoiada and his sons led out the king’s son and placed on him the crown and the royal insignia. ⁴  They proclaimed him king and poured olive oil on his head. ⁵  They declared, “Long live the king!”

[4:11]  ² tn Heb “Huram,” but here this refers to Huram Abi (2 Chr 2:13). The complete name has been used in the translation to avoid possible confusion with King Huram of Tyre.

[23:11]  ⁴ tn The Hebrew word עֵדוּת (’edut) normally means “witness” or “testimony.” Here it probably refers to some tangible symbol of kingship, perhaps a piece of jewelry such as an amulet or neck chain (see the discussion in M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings [AB], 128). Some suggest that a document is in view, perhaps a copy of the royal protocol or of the stipulations of the Davidic covenant (see HALOT 790-91 s.v.).
